Book: Life After Death

Life After Death: The Burden of ProofLife After Death: The Burden of Proof by Deepak Chopra

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

This book didnt meet my expectations. It seems like the book is trying sell eastern vision of death to the people of Christian faith or the western world.

Deepak Chopra simply accepts everything that has been put offered by vedas or even Hindu mythology. Throughout the book keeps comparing the it with Christan version. Mention of Hindu mythology is in form of  story of Savitry (Lady who wants to save life of her husband from God of death), which runs though out the book.

Though out the book there are anecdotes of other people who claim to have supernatural experience such as 'out of body experience', resurrection, dreams etc.

On the whole the book did not made any sense for me because it has nothing definitive or assertive to offer. I am leaving the book half way.

Book: To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a MockingbirdTo Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Story is narrated by a small girl, in small town, in early 19 th century. It is about the how a growing child perceives and understands the world . Unprejudiced way of  looking at things exposes the bigotry in the world, errant behavior of grown-ups and racialism.

Very simple and light read. It goes in a slow paced manners and characters are one dimensional.
There is nothing that we dont know of and there is no strong message that authour puts accross. But does leave you with a sense of disgrace for who our society is and how it treats deprived people.

A must read for teenagers.

Book: The Fountainhead

The FountainheadThe Fountainhead by Ayn Rand

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

All the characters in the book vary between two kind of personalities, producers and second handers. Producers do things they are passionate about to create new things; while seconders do things that others think they should do because acceptance from others is what they look for.

The book also tried to put a perspective to selfishness. I sometimes realize that I am selfish and I admit it too. There as been times when it has been used against me This book tells how everyone of us are selfish and its not a bad things .

This book tells you to be selfish in a way to be able to help yourself, so that in turn you can be of help to others; tells you to be a producer and second hander.

The story and the characters are strong enough to take you till the end, where she decodes the story and behavior of each characters. And every thing falls into place. Dont miss the end if you have start reading the book.

Buying Happiness !!

There are times when you have a compulsive feeling to buy something and you have bought it,  felt good about it but never used it ever.

Why do we buy things we dont need.  This is because we are looking for something and that thing is called happiness. The world around us wants us to believe that we can buy happiness.

Pleasure is the most important thing in life. But the word pleasure brings up a wrong picture in our mind. That picture is cause the world wants us to believe that material thing bring happiness.

But its not the case, there are few things known to be essential for happiness and they are...

Friends - Relationships are most important ingredients of life without which life will be hollow.

Health - When you have a meal, be careful of not only what you eat but also of with whom you eat.

Freedom - It means a life free from any kind of compulsion. This includes freedom from expectation from parents, friends and society.

Analyzed life - It is important to realize what we need. What we want is not always what we need.

Advertisements are meant to confuse you between what you want (happiness) and what they want to sell. When they advertise a Beer they will show friends enjoying the beer. The fact is, it is the friends that will make you happy and  your subconscious mind knows it . This co-relation is used to deceive us to buy beer.

Money dose bring you happiness.  But, when wealth is more then what you need to live is like a overflowing vessel,  like water which just flows out of the vessel and you don’t even care where it flows.

We are horribly confused about what makes us happy. If we really knew that, there would be less things we would be desperate for. A bigger house or a bigger car will not necessarily bring freedom or friends . Or wait may be some friends :P

Best bands......... of recent times

Staind
Though often categorized as metal is actually of a much softer then that. Their lyrics are intriguing , though some songs do exhibit the tinge of heavy metal, their music is mind blowing.

Maroon 5
I just can't seem to get enough of their Music. Something tells me they're gonna make it big.Waiting for their other album to be released .

Oasis
Soft tracks are soothing to the ears. Oasis has something good going on.

Goo GOo Dolls
These boys have been around for a while now, but their music is still fresh . Enchanted millions, with thier song 'Iris' , OST for City Of Angels. They have many other hits , they just keep rocking.

3 Doors Down
Kryptonite, Here without you, when i am gone , this band just seems to be churning out hit after hit. With a pop/rock sort of edge, 3 Doors Down is rocking and rolling with their new track Let Me Go.

Nickelback
The best part of the band is Chad Kroeger, Lead Vocalist and Guitarist has a husky voice, makes the music sound like true rock music.
Mostly singing about romance, the loss of love, or hate in relationships. Earlier albums had songs of problems, such as parental desertion and domestic abuse. Now getting more popular with popular type of Music.

Foo Fighters
Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl made his new band Foo Fighters . Regrettably, Nirvana comparisons are not only inevitable, they're bound to consume the dialogue surrounding band entirely. It's natural that Cobain's knack for balancing hard and fast with musical and melodic would wear off. Of course, imitating NIrvana they have tried to capture Cobain's teen spirit; that Foo Fighters creating a heavy rock album that's neither noisy nor cold is a measured achievement in its own .

GNR - All time favorite.
Coldplay - Definitely unique
Disturbed - For those who are really disturbed and stupefied. Good for a change.
